Analysis of the concepts of absurd and revolt in the play named Caligula of Albert Camus

Albert Camus, who is the one of prominent philosophers in the twentieth century, has reflected his attitude of life and his points of view through his life experiences since the era he lived was the era of the war. İn his works of art, there are two main concepts that we often come across. These are; absurd and revolt. For Camus, it is inevitable for man to question the meaning of the life at a time when mass deaths were experienced, exiles were witnessed and human life was completely disregarded. These two concepts that we often came across in both his novel and his theatrical play with existentialism were admitted as the beginning of Camus philosophy. Absurd, which is encountered as a result of this questioning, and revolt, which is the most efficient way to deal with it, are very important concepts that are in the center of Camus' works. In this study, the goal was to investigate the concepts of absurd and revolt in Albert Camus' theatrical play "Caligula", which is his most intense play focusing on the death. The result of losing the person Emperor Caligula loved, and him coming up against reality of death caused him to have been a cruel person. From now on, the mission of Caligula, who preferred to become a `cruel` in such a cruel world in which the death exists, is to explain his people about the situation and how ridiculous it is.
