The comparison between Albert Camus's Stranger and Yusuf Atılgan's Idle Man on the basis of existentialism

The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the existential elements in the Algerian-born French writer Albert Camus's novel Foreigner and one of the most important writers of Turkish literature, Yusuf Atilgan's novel which is named İdle Man and to make a comparative assessment by considering the lives of these two writers. Existentialism is the search of meaningful answer for existence problem of human.It is seen that themes of existentialism which is far from a certain system such as alienation/loneliness, nonsense/absurd, boredom/anxiety, hope/ despair, freedom/rebellion, questioning/searching, death/immortality are handled in novels called Stranger and Aylak Adam. In this study after the reflections of these themes on the characters is revealed, these two novels are compared with their differences and similarities. The common aspects in the studied works of Albert Camus and Yusuf Atılgan, can put down the fact that Yusuf Atılgan could be inflenced by Albert Camus and also it can show that these two contemporary authors have a similar point of view to the existence problem of human, even though they belong to a different geography and culture.
