Abstract (EN)

Ali Fuad Başgil (1893-1967), the National Struggle years, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, İsmet İnönü, Celal Bayar- Adnan Menderes period May 27, 1960 has witnessed the coup and its aftermath that Turkey political history of the critical year, gave the idea struggle, is a multi-faceted personality. Başgil, a professor of Constitutional Law, emphasized the rule of law and emphasized the importance of democracy. He wrote works that touched the nation's tender spot and succeeded to become an intellectual whose voice was heard in public. Başgil tried to show the wounds caused by the steps taken with the dream of Westernization and strongly criticized those who assumed the duty of social engineering. He also described himself as nationalist, spiritualist, libertarian, progressive and conservative in response to those accused of reaction. In this sense, the sharpest Başgil bend that Turkey's modernization process, as well as the liberal voice can be evaluated against the Jacobin tradition as a representative of conservatism.
