Abstract (EN)

The effect of operating an in line six cylinder SI engine with three cylinders at idle speeds on the fuel economy and emissions were evaluated in this study. A valve control and intake manifold control mechanism was designed and produced for this purpose. When controlled, this mechanism de activates 4-5-6. th cylinders while intake manifold control valve closing mixture flow to these cylinders and the engine works on three cylinders. In three cylinder mode, pumping loss of the engine was decreased and fuel economy increased. Meanwhile prior to flow cut down of the three deactivated cylinders, pollution effect of the exhaust gases were decreased.
