Abstract (EN)

In the definitions made for the concept of alternative media, although there is no clear consensus on what alternative media is and what features it has, different definitions are made by different researchers. Alternative media can be briefly defined as a medium that provides opportunities for people who cannot have their voices heard in the media and whose main purpose is not profit. This study deals with the concept of alternative media, which opposes the inegalitarian, discriminatory and exclusionary production policy of the mainstream media, and the perspective of the Deep Poverty Solidarity Network on poverty. The aim of the study is to reveal whether the Deep Poverty Solidarity Network is an example of alternative media. In this context, first of all, the website of the Deep Poverty Network was examined to determine whether it constitutes an example of alternative media. Then, the reports between March 2020 and April 2024 in the "DYA Publications" section of the Deep Poverty Network website were subjected to the content analysis method. In this regard, the issues highlighted in the relevant reports, the contexts in which the texts were presented, whose words were included, which photographs were used and word choices were examined within the scope of the analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the Deep Poverty Network's websites and the contents on the website can be evaluated in the context of alternative media.
