Examples of alternative cinema techniques in Turkey

Cinema has always been in a difficult situation in terms of production, and has always existed around some specific centers in different times. The goal of this study is to draw attention to the possibility that there can be alternative paths in terms of film production and to shed light to these alternative methods. The number of producers who produce profit-based films on the basis of commercial concerns in Turkish Cinema has been increasing every day. It can be said that films that are created with different reasons are only based on individual efforts. Movies produced through commercial concerns cause standardization and it becomes impossible to see creative films in the sector. Alternative production techniques in cinema are researched and examples from Turkey are analyzed in this study which focuses on analyzing independent production potentialities. For this reason, firstly a detailed literature review are carried out; after this process, interviews are made through using depth-interview/oral interview techniques with film-makers who achieved success by using alternative cinema techniques in Turkish cinema sector; on the basis of the obtained data, situation of Turkish cinema sector is analyzed and characterized. Functionality of production methods in alternative cinema techniques is presented and independent and alternative production mechanisms except the dominant production centers are analyzed.
