Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of DSLT applied before extraction of MGUMDs on post-surgical pain, edema and trismus. Material and method: Twenty-eight patients, aged 18-45 years, with bilateral, similarly positioned, impacted mandibular third molar teeth, who were indicated for extraction as a result of clinical and radiographic examinations, participated in the study. The patients were divided into 2 groups and DSLT was applied to the 1st group 10 minutes before the surgical operation, the 2nd group was determined as the control group, and routine impacted tooth extraction was performed after the blue LED light application. In order to evaluate the effect of DSLT on post-surgical pain, edema and trismus, measurements were made at the 24th hour (T0), 48th hour (T1) and 7th day (T2) before the operation. Jamovi 2.2.5 statistical program was used for statistical analysis.Since the normal distribution was not obtained, the Friedman test was used to measure the repetitive times within the group. The control group was evaluated with the laser and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: It was determined that 23 (82.14%) of the participants were female, 5 (17.86% were male), and their mean age was 21.34±4.37. There was no statistically significant difference between the laser and control groups in terms of pain.trismus edema at T0, T1 and T2 times (p>0.05) Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, the effects of preoperative DSLT on postsurgical pain, edema and trismus showed clinically acceptable results. New clinical studies are needed to evaluate the long-term success of DSLT. Keywords: Laser, LLLT, Pain, Swelling, Trismus, Third Molar, Wisdom Teeth.
