Abstract (TR)
The main aim of the study is to determine the patient care outcomes and comfort levels related with pain management for surgical patients after their surgery as well as to examine the correlation among patient care outcomes and their comfort levels. The research design of the study was lamented as cross-sectional and correlational research model. The sample of the study consisted of 147 patients who were treated at General Surgery, Orthopedics and Urology clinics of a public hospital in TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus). Beside of this, data were collected by the researcher during 01.02.2019 and 30.05.2019 after having required permissions from the institutions. Demographic Information sheet, “Turkish Revised American Pain Society Patient Outcome Questionnaire (APS-POQ-R-TR) and lastly Perianesthesia Comfort Scale were employed to collect data from the participants. It was articulated that; descriptive analysis, t test, One Way Anova, Kruskal-Wallis and lastly Mann-Whitney U tests were appointed to analyze the collected data. The patients which constituted the sample of the study; 28.57% of them were 36-50 years old, 61.9% were male, 77.6% were married, 35.4% were secondary school graduates, 63.9% of them had previous surgical intervention experience, 88.4% had encountered with a pain before having a surgery. In addition to these, findings also highlighted that 46.9% of the patients were hospitalized at general surgical clinic, 52.4% of the patients had a major surgical intervention and 96.6% had treated through Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflatuar (NSAI) analgesic. Results documented the maxiumum and minimum pain scores within the first 24 hours as 8.33 ± 0.88 and 3.88 ± 1.35 respectively. The mean of the maxiumum pain score was 8.33 ± 0.88. Asides of these, the postoperative pain management patient care results demonstated that the effect of pain intensity on sleep and activity was at moderate level whereas emotional effects and side effects were low level while patient care perception was found above average. In addition to these, postoperative comfort scale mean score was 110.82 ± 10.053. It was found that type of surgery, gender, urgency of surgery, number of previous surgical interventions had an impact on postoperative pain management care results and patients’comfort level. The pain management of the patients was had significant negative and poor relationship with pain intensity and sleep impact sub-dimension. (r = - 0.173; p = 0.036); while it had significant, negative and moderate relationship with emotional impact sub- dimension (r = -, 510; p = 0.000); In addition to these, pain management of the patients had a significant, positive and poor relationship with patient care perception sub-dimension. (r = 0.226; p = 0.000) Lastly, also signaled that pain management of the patients had significant, negative and moderate relationship between the care perception sub-dimension and a statistically significant, moderate, negative relationship with side effects sub- dimension.(r = 0.280; p = 0.001). Findings revealed that postoperative pain management patient care and their comfort level were moderate and there was a linkage among pain management care results and comfort level of the patients. It was observed that effective pain management after surgical intervention had positive impact on patient outcomes and increased patients’comfort level.
