Abstract (EN)

Objective: Investigation of the relationship between insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) level and somatic cell count in the milk of Anatolian buffaloes. Materials and Methods: The material of the thesis study consisted of the milks obtained from 3-6 aged Anatolian buffaloes in the lactation period. Milk samples from buffaloes that were milked in the morning were evaluated for subclinical mastitis. For this purpose, firstly, California mastitis test and then somatic cell counting were performed on milk milked from four different mammary lobes of buffaloes. Milk samples were used as thesis material of 100 buffaloes, whose California mastitis test result was negative and somatic cell count was determined to be 200x103 cells/ml. IGF-1 concentration in milk samples was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent analysis (ELISA) method using bovine specific ELISA test kits. Results: The number of somatic cells in the milk of Anatolian buffaloes was determined as 0.68±0.31x105 cells/ml. Milk IGF-1 level of Anatolian buffaloes was found to be between 6.7 ng/ml-19.4 ng/ml. IGF-1 level in Anatolian buffalo milk was recorded as 11.94±2.93 ng/ml. The positive correlation was determined between the level of IGF-1 in and the number of somatic cells milk (r2=0.971, p<0.01). Conclusion: Increased IGF-1 level was determined with the increasing of the number of somatic cells in milk of Anatolian buffaloes. This thesis study will contribute to scientific studies on growth factors, which are bioactive components of buffalo milk, which has an important place in human nutrition.
