Spoons in Anatolian culinary culture during neolithic period

Radical changes and transformations took place in many aspects of prehistoric life during the Neolithic Period. Perhaps the most important of these is the domestication of grains that lead to major shifts in food production. Grain-based foods such as porridge and stewed dishes began to be prepared and therefore spoons were required for food consumption in this age of transition. As one of the most widespread archaeological finds all around the world spoons have been unearthed in many Anatolian Neolithic Settlements. Although many object-based syntheses have been conducted in the neolithic centers, spoons have not been a direct focus of attention except for a few settlement based case studies. This study aims to examine the use of spoons, their interregional distribution and density in the Anatolian Neolithic. It focuses on their cultural context and long-term development with a typological perspective.
