Examination of value orientations of anatolian teacher high school students in terms of some variables (Ankara sample)

Abstract (EN)

This research was carried out to determine if there is a meaningful difference between the value orientations of the students in Anatolian Teacher High School whichis a secondary school that aims to train and educate students for higher education institutions that train and educate teachers and determined variables or not. As the study intends to determine the current situation, it is a descriptive research in the survey model. While 12th grade students who are getting education in Anatolian Teacher high Schools in Ankara in 2011- 2012 academic year compose thetarget population of the study, 467 students having participated in the research based onvolunteering compose the sample. The data were collected with the questionnaire that is composed of two parts. While there are questions regarding the personal information of the students in the first part of the questionnaire, there is a Questionnaire of Portrait Values which was developed by Schwartz et al (2001) and Demirutku (2004) and which has been adaptedto Turkish in the second part. The data collected via the scale that was applied by the researcher was analyzed using SPSS 17.0 packet program. In the evaluation of the scale in which opinions of the students participating in the research are received, frequency, percentage, arithmetic average and standard deviation values were used. In addition, with the purpose of determining the value orientations of the students and examination of their opinions interms of different variables; One- Way ANOVA, Welch, Scheffe and Tamhane multiple comparison test was carried out. Also, in the analysis of the binary groups, it wasvi benefited from t test for the independent groups. Meaningful level was discussed as 0.05in the research. As a result of the research; it has been seen that order of importance of the value orientations of Anatolian Teacher High School students is as Universality, Security, Self- orientation, Helpfulness, Obeying, Success, Traditionality, Excitement, Takingpleasure from life and Strength Values. In the value orientations of the students, a difference was found out in the values of Strength and Universality according to the gender; in the values of Success, Taking Pleasure from Life, Self-Orientation according to the residential area where they hadtheir childhood; Strength, Universality according to birth order of the children in thefamily; in the values of Obeying according to their family structures. While a difference is seen in the value of Traditionality according to the education level and occupation ofthe mother, a difference is seen in the value of Self-Orientation according to the income state of the families. When the number of the individuals in the family is considered, it has been found out that there is a difference in the values of Taking Pleasure from Life, Excitement, Helpfulness, Security and according to students? father?s educational level and the value orientation of Success while, there is no difference in the value orientations according to the occupations of the students? fathers.
