The relationship of theater and stadion in Anatolia in Roman period

Theater and stadion structures had been started to be built in Anatolian cities in the Hellenistic Period. Althoug it has different features in terms of plan and design, it has developed in Anatolian cities with the arcitectural propaganda of the Romans. In the Anatolian Roman urban planning, the main street connected with the sanctuary is generally a holy road. The theater and stadion structures are located around or asociated with this street. The level of development of theater and stadion structures in terms of plan and location depends on agon which is organized in the city, Budget, transportation, and topographic reasons. The relationship between the theater and the stadion was established by proposing the passage route of the ceremony processions held within the scope of the festivals organized in the cities. The gathering point of the triumphal processions in Italy during the imperial period in Rome, begins at the Campus Martius and the route that includes the Circus Maximus would end at the Temple of Jupiter. In the Roman Period, this relationship differs among cities with both structures in Anatolia. The ceremony that started in the sanctuary of Artemis in the Ephesos example of the ceremony held in the name of the cult in the epigraphic finds in Ionia, proceeds in the city and includes the theater and the stadion on the route and return to the point it came from.
