Abstract (EN)
Acoustic documentation and comfort analysis of cultural heritage has become an important study topic in recent years. The main goal of the studies on this subject is to preserve the acoustic performance of historical buildings as the acoustical heritage of societies, and this is an important innovation in the field of architectural conservation. In this context, in the capital of Konya, Anatolian Seljuk-era neighborhood masjids are considered as cultural heritage with their plan typologies and original architectural examples. At the same time, it is of particular importance in terms of the history of architecture as a pioneer in the development of the architectural style of the Turkish mosque. In the written literature, it is seen that there are many studies on the structural and architectural features of the Konya neighborhood mosques, but there is no study on the acoustic comfort of the buildings. Evaluating the acoustic performances of these historical neighborhood masjids, which have both speaking and religious music functions, identifying interventions that negatively affect performance, and improving suggestions are important to hand this heritage on future generations. Within the scope of the thesis, it is aimed to document the acoustic characteristics of Hoca Hasan Masjid and Taş Masjid, which was chosen as an example among Konya neighborhood masjids that carry both speech and religious music function, and to evaluate acoustic comfort conditions. The thesis study consists of five main chapters. In chapter one; the purpose, scope, method of the study and the literature research used in the preparation phase are discussed. In the second part, architectural features of the mosques that developed in the historical process in general, and the Anatolian Seljuk period neighborhood mosques, in particular, are discussed. Besides, the concept of acoustic comfort, physical characteristics of sound, its indoor behaviour and acoustic defects that affect room acoustics are explained. In the third chapter, the actions, sources and receivers characteristics and acoustic comfort requirements in mosques under the design parameters are presented. It also includes objective parameters to be used in room acoustics assessments and optimum acceptance values compiled from the literature. In the fourth chapter, the structural and architectural characteristics of Hoca Hasan Masjid and Taş Masjid, selected as fieldwork, are explained and the acoustic simulation program (ODEON 14.05 Auditorium) and its acceptances were described as the method of the study. In the light of the acceptances, the acoustic comfort analysis of Hoca Hasan Masjid and Taş Masjid, the determined actions (Friday sermon and Friday prayer) and simulation results for the room acoustics parameters (RT, EDT, D50, C50, C80 and STI) are examined. Afterwards, the results of the analysis for both masjids are compared to each other. By result of obtained data on acoustical comfort, in the fifth part of the thesis, the effects of features such as different source and receiver locations as a result of the usage function and building materials are deduced. In general, recommendations for the acoustic comfort conditions of the neighborhood masjids are presented.
