Application and reinterpretation of motifs used in rug weaving in Anatolia as relief via underglaze brush decor in ceramic art

It is known that 'Rug' has emerged with the desire to supply the basic needs of human beings in different cultures in different regions of the world. The motifs seen in rug textiles reflect emotions, thoughts and experiences. The art of rug has a great importance to help the social structure make connection with the past. The motifs used differ from region to region and they are called with different names. The importance of the rug craft, usage area of which has increasingly reduced today and transferring the motifs used in rugs to future generations have become more and more important.Today, although the production techniques of rugs are changed and developed, they are used as an aesthetic element and attracts attention. The motifs used in kilims are used in many different fields today. One of these areas is the art of ceramics.Like other branches of art, the art of 'Ceramics' has also emerged from human needs.In addition to the application techniques such as rellef and scraping on the two or three dimensional ceramic products used today, rug motifs are used in hand decoration, serigraphy and transfer technique. In this study, the contribution of traditional rug motifs to the interdisciplinary visual aesthetics as a decorative element was researched and it was aimed to share the application examples with their results.
