Analyzing in sociolinguistics variants of applying levels of writing rules and punctuation marks of middle school 6th grade students who had migrated: Example from Körfez

The purpose of this study is to find out about middle school 6th grade students who had come to Kocaeli/ Körfez with migration and how they are capable of using writing rules and punctuation marks and to evaluate the results in sociolinguistics principles.The participants of this qualitative research are 124 students of Körfez Halide Edip Adıvar Middle School, Yavuz Sultan Selim Middle School, Yüzüncü Yıl Middle School and Hereke Kışladüzü Middle School in 2010-2011 education year.Main goals of study1.Of the students who had migrated;a.What is the level of their applying punctuation marks?b.What is the level of their applying writing rules?c.What is the level of their applying writing forms and styles?d.Whether there is any meaningful difference in applying writing rules and applying punctuation marks.2.According to the change in sex of the students who had migrated;a.If there is any meaningful difference in using the punctuation marks or not.b.If there is any meaningful difference in using the writing rules or not.c.If there is any meaningful difference in applying the rules related with writing forms and shapes.3.Social and economic levels of students who had migratedThe evaluation table that had been developed by Karabuga in 2011 for measuring writing rules and punctuation marks has been used. The evaluation table mentioned above was also used for evaluation the writing works and explanations together with essential forms and shapes of compositions.Necessary social-economic information about students was taken from their parent records so that the datum that were collected to evaluate for society linguistics principles and the placement of those students.Writing rules and punctuation marks were examined in written works and explanations differently for male and female students. The results that were examined according to the mentioned scales were analyzed with SPSS 16.0 (Statistic Package For Social Science) program.They were separated as percentage and frequency and evaluation charts were formed for their independent samples ?t? test using levels.Evaluation charts were commented, the results that were obtained were evaluated in society linguistics principles. At the end of this study and research some recommendations were seen necessary for every office and departments involved in this education field so that we are able to make the present situation better.Key words: Migration, Punctuation, Writing Rules, Sociolinguistics
