Abstract (EN)

İntroduction and Objective: Atherosclerosis is considered to be a poor prognostic factor for sudden hearing loss (S.H.L.). In this study, it is planned to investigate the importance of atherosclerosis in the pathogenesis of S.H.L. by evaluating the new found markers Salusin alpha and Salusin beta. At the same time, we aimed to evaluate the risk factors for atherosclerosis such as lipid profile, smoking, BMI and waist circumference. Materials and Methods: S.H.L. 35 patients aged 15-70 were included in the study. The control group included 30 patients whose otoscopic examination and hearing level was normal. Patients with S.H.L. were hospitalized and treated routinely and risk factors for atherosclerosis such as smoking, B.K.I, lipid profile and serum salusin alpha and salusin beta levels were evaluated. Results: Salusin alpha mean was not significantly different between the two groups, Salusin beta value was significantly higher in the S.H.L. group (p < 0,05). No significant difference was found between the groups in terms of age, gender distribution, BMI, T.K. , TG, HDL and LDL. In the evaluation of prognosis, partial and complete recovery were counted together. Thus, 74.28% (n: 26) of 35 patients improved and 25.71% (n: 9) did not improve. The effect of Salusin alpha, salusin beta value, BMI, waist circumference, smoking, mean blood pressure, the presence of vertigo tinnitus, mean duration of application, type of audiometry and initial hearing level on the prognosis was not shown. Conclusion: We investigated the effects of salusin-α, salusin-b peptides in patients with S.H.L. and their impact on prognosis of the disease. With this study, it is thought that these peptides can be used as a biomarker when investigating the etiology of S.H.L
