Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study was to examine the cervical VEMP and ocular VEMP syptoms pre-treatment and post treatment among the patients diagnosed with idiopathic SHL. Sixty patients aged between 18 and 65 were included in the study. The individuals were seperated into two groups: one group diagnosed with idiopathic SHL (n=30) and the other being the control group (n=30). All individuals were given pre and post treatment cVEMP and oVEMPS tests, and the subjects with complaints about dizziness or sudden hearing loss along with nausea were given Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and visual analog scale (VAS). In addition, each patient with SHL was asked about the presence of tinnitus. When the conditions of the ear effected by idiopathic sudden hearing loss were compared, a significant shrinkage was found on N1 latency in cVEMP post treatment (p<0,05) . In the comparison of the conditions of the ear affected by idiopathic sudden hearing before and after treatment, no statistically significant differenceswere found in the cVEMP and oVEMP answers of the subjects with vertigo and without vertigo (p>0,05) When the pre-treatment and post-treatment DHI, VAS and the presence of tinnitus conditions were compared among the subjects with idiopathic SHL and dizziness, it was detected that the total scores in pre-treatment were significantly higher than post-treatment (p<0,05). In conclusion, the otholith organs of the subjects with idiopathic SHL are more prone due to being anatomically closer to cochlea and it is concluded that the VEMP test could be utilized in the research of vestibular function among these patients. Keywords: Dizziness, idiopathic sudden hearing loss, otolith organs, tinnitus, vertigo, vestibular evoked myogenic potentials
