Chromatographic determination of organochlorine pesticides in drinking and irrigation water in Ayas county of ankara

In this study, some organochlorine pesticides residue levels were studied in the province of Ankara, Ayas County, Asartepe Dam Lake and drinking fountains around the dam lake. Ayaş is an important production center of vegetables and fruits of Turkey and Asartepe Dam Lake is the only irrigation water dam in the region and no research has been done before in view of pesticide pollution. Water samples have been taken from designated points on the dam lake, in May and August to reflect the rainy and dry periods. A liquid-liquid extraction followed by GC-ECD was used to determine organochlorine pesticides in water samples.In both periods, ?-BHC, ß-BHC, ?-BHC, ?-BHC, heptachlor, heptachloroperoxide, aldrin, dieldrin, DDD, DDE, DDT, endosulfan-I, endosulfan-II, endrin aldehyde have been determined in dam lake samples. In May, ?-BHC, ß-BHC, ?-BHC, ?-BHC, heptachlor, heptachlorperoxide, aldrin, dieldrin, DDD, DDE and in August ?-BHC, ß-BHC, ?-BHC, ?-BHC, heptachlor, heptachlorperoxide, aldrin, dieldrin, DDD, DDE, DDT, endosulfan-I, endosulfan-II, endrin pesticides have been observed in fountains water samples. Pesticide residue levels in both of dam and fountains water samples were found to be higher than the limit values determined by European Commision 76/464/EEC-2006/11/EC `On pollution caused by certain dangerous substances discharged into the aquatic environment of the community directive? and 80/778/EEC `Drinking water directive?.
