In urban transportation, lack of coordination among transport modes and absence of an operating policy and enforcements result transportation problems. Especially of taxis which operate independent from other transport modes, cause excess density and negative impacts on traffic. Parallel of new technological improvements, research on actual taxi operations and possibilities of more effiecent and safer systems is inevitable. Using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology can provide this. GIS technology is a system that is formed of hardware, software and users to achieve information on geographical beings, its storage, processing, analysis and producing new results from the produced information. Urban city transportation problem especially resulted from taxis that are driving randomly in traffic. In this study as a solution to taxi related to urban transport problems, a model taxi call service has been developed in the case study of Ankara by using GIS.
