This study (research) made on handicapped persons. Who make needleworks, at Ankara association of work and workman findation

Knitting art which is branch of Turkish handicrafts, is keeping a live by womens. Oyas are one of the most beatiful samples of this art. Needlework, that is made by needle, taken form by knitting of threads by needle in two or three dimension. Almost every region of Anatolia, the needle works are made by so many women and girls. Knitting tecniques are learned to the girls for gain skills as base. Handicapped persons who have physical or mental dissability, needs special education and rehabilitation support services. The persons who have mental dissability or deafness, needs rehabilitation at private school, but handicapped persons (with physical dissability) can use normal education society like healty persons. Ankara Occupational Rehabilitation Centre is established in 1991, to make the active age young handicapped people of the country productive, to qualify them, to adapt them to the society, to ease their rehabilitation. There are knitting, clothing, silver processing, ceramics, decoratif furniture, flover and needlework couses towards handicapped people in this centre. This search (study) which cours- needleworks planned and conducted for the aim of preparing scientific documents about needlework's. Features about tools, tecniques, composition and using fields. This research also planed to fix handicapped person's interest about needlework and help of this activity on their physical and economic progress. Due to fewness of student in the needlework course, this research based on interviews with all 40 students of needlework course. So there is no special search group. Informations which are taken from 40 interviews, are appraised statisticaly and are shown in tableaus with interpretation.From the result of interviews shows us, most students are graduated from primary education and these young unmaried persons have innate phsical dissability. These persons can make needlework for their personal necessity easily and they take the needleworks models from real samples, which are made before, or from models books. It seen that there is no limiting about colour and these persons are happy with retail saling of this product and also happy with coming thes course. The 30 product (needleworks) are studied in this research. Photographs are taken and information are written on every card. These information contains datas about varieties, dimensions, used materials, subject, composition of product. These informations are prepared in a casting tableau form. These handicapped persons use needle and synthetic yarn it's obviously seenthat the used techniques are kök (root), zürefa, fiskil, kirpik (eyelash), boru (pipe) and bıyık (mustache). It seen that in these product mainly naturel objective, symbolic and asspecialy geometric motifs are used. Also it seen that there is no limiting about used colour. But major colour is green and it's tones. It is obsorved that the composition of the product formed by different arrangments between main and intermediate motifs. These needleworks product mainly used and applied on yazma (a kind of head cover), tripod's cover, hairtie, pillow cover, handkerchief, head cover which used in "mevlid". After all these research and collected informations, we can say that the number of this rehabilitation service center must been increased. Handicrafts comes widespread and updated with the help of like these centers.
