A new model for para transit system (dolmuş) in Ankara: Case study Çayyolu

As the local public transportation in Ankara is evaluated in the period morethan half a century, it can be seen that Ankara has been faced with anincreasing transportation demand more than population growth. With the effectof the insufficiency in the public transportation nowadays, developingautomotive industry and the government policies supporting privatetransportation; the rapidly increasing number of private automobile ownersresulted in the increased share of private transportation within the total motorvehicle transportations and in the recent years Ankara has become a city thatexperiences intensive traffic problems. In this study, the historical developmentof dolmuş, its operation features and legal framework, lines and storage areaswill be examined, the place of dolmuş in the Ankara public transportationsystem will be stated in the Çayyolu line example and there will be suggestionsabout the contemporary local transportation system.ivThis study aims to point out the place of the dolmuş transportation in the localtransportation and to contribute to the adaptation period of contemporary localtransportation system.
