Analyzing the stylistic change in Ankara's civil architectural memory through residential facades: The case of Mebusevleri Neighborhood

This study aims to examine the transformation of architectural design concepts over time and the effects of this transformation on civil architectural memory through the capital Ankara. The study is centered on residential buildings that meet the need for shelter, which is one of the primary needs of human beings, and have the highest level of communication with people. The study was completed in two stages: literature research and fieldwork. In the literature research, readings were made on the concept of housing and its development process. Gestalt principles and basic design principles, which are used as a method of analysis at the point of formal approach to architecture, were explained based on the literature and the selected area was analyzed through building facades in this direction. The study area was limited to İller Street, the busiest street of Mebusevleri Neighborhood, which is home to one of the first cooperative examples of the country. The results were reached by reading the literature in comparison with the data obtained from the study area and making comparative evaluations with the formal analysis of the buildings in the area. In these comparisons, the residential area has started to lose its characteristic of being a residential area over the years. If necessary measures are not taken in the neighborhood, it is thought that the deterioration caused by unplanned urbanization, which occurs in many regions in today's conditions, will increase here as well. This study aims to provide a guide for other researchers in the field by creating an analytical perspective to investigate the architectural memory of historical neighborhoods.
