Modern educational institutions in Ankara Sanjak

In this study, the reflections of education-training activities in the Ottoman modernization period in Ankara Sanjak are examined in the light of main sources. The study consists of four chapters after the introduction and a conclusion. In the introduction, the general framework of modern education has been tried to be revealed by referring to the concept of modernization. At the same time, the geographical location of Ankara, the source of the name Ankara and the historical structure of Ankara from antiquity until the fall of the Ottoman Empire are summarized in this section. In the first part; The Ottoman education system has been outlined as primary schools in the Ottoman Empire, madrasahs and primary schools that were opened in the first period of renewal, as well as the basic civil education (ibtidâî), rüşdîs, idâdîs, sultânîs, darülmuallimîn, darülmuallimât and vocational schools during and after the Tanzimat period. In the second part; Detailed information was given about the education administration and education councils established in the Sanjak of Ankara and the basic (ibtidâî) education within the sanjak. In the third part; In the Sanjak of Ankara, rüşdî, idâdî, sultânî, dârülmuallimîn (ibtidâî and rüşdî), darülmuallimât, correctional facility, industrial school, sample farm, agriculture and shepherd school, darüleytam and gendarmerie schools were discussed in detail. In the fourth part; Information was given about the schools opened by non-Muslim and foreign states in Sanjak of Ankara. In the conclusion part, it has been tried to determine the effects of the rationale and policies produced to open modern educational institutions in the Ottoman Empire since the Tanzimat period on the Sanjak of Ankara.
