Özet (EN)

Aim: With the technology brought by today's age, developments have been made in the provision of health care services to facilitate patient-oriented service. Home health care service is one of the most important of these. With aging, the rate of chronic diseases also increases. One of the leading chronic diseases is diabetes. This study aims to examine the sociodemographic characteristics, medications, blood glucose levels, hemoglobin a1c values, and renal function values of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received services from Ankara City Hospital Home Health Care Unit in 2021. Materials and Methods: Our study is an analytical cross-sectional study. In our study, adult diabetic patients who received services from Ankara City Hospital Home Health Care Unit in 2021 were examined. The study was conducted on a total of 826 people. IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 software was used to analyze the data obtained. Whether the numerical data fitted to the normal distribution was determined by looking at the histogram graph, skewness, and kurtosis values and performing the Shapiro-Wilk test (p-value<0.01). The chi-square test (Pearson and Fisher's exact test) was used for the comparison of categorical variables. Analyses were performed at a 95% confidence interval and p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Of the 826 home health care patients included in the study, 70.9% were female and 29.1% were male. Of the patients, 56.2% were semi-dependent, 26.8% were fully-dependent and 17% were independent. While 76.5% (632) of the patients had regulated blood glucose, 23.5% were not regulated. 62.2% of patients used only 1 or more oral antidiabetic drugs, 18.6% used only 1 or more insulin and 19.2% used both oral antidiabetic drugs and insulin. The rate of being regulated was higher in those taking only OAD than in those taking only insulin and OAD+insulin. Conclusion: Health care personnel providing home health care services should have more comprehensive knowledge in terms of the management of diabetes and its complications. It is of great importance to treat and monitor diabetes in primary health care facilities where patients can reach it much more easily and where a comprehensive approach is addressed more.
