Examination of carpet motifs with inventory numbers 2038 and 2029 located in the Ankara Foundation Museum and contemporary jewelry designs.

This thesis examines the motifs of Kırşehir and Uşak carpets with inventory numbers 2038 and 2029 in the collection of Ankara Foundation Works Museum and focuses on the transfer of these motifs to contemporary jewelry designs. This research examines the historical development, symbolic meanings, and artistic characteristics of carpet and jewelry art in Anatolian culture, revealing the aesthetic, formal, and symbolic commonalities between these two traditional art forms. First, the place of carpet culture in the historical process, the characteristic features of Anatolian carpet weaving, the concept of museology, and the development of jewelry art are investigated. Then, two original carpet examples from the Ankara Foundation Works Museum are analyzed along with their motif analyses. These motifs are evaluated in terms of form, color, style, and symbolism, first stylized by hand study by the researcher, and then transformed into contemporary and tangible product designs in accordance with jewelry design principles. The research demonstrates that cultural heritage can be preserved in a contemporary context through the reinterpretation of traditional motifs with modern design principles. In this context, the aim is to create an artistic bridge between past handicrafts and present-day design approaches, thereby preserving cultural continuity and passing it on to future generations. This thesis also contributes to the re-evaluation of tangible cultural assets in museum collections from the perspective of design discipline. The aim is to both preserve traditional symbolism and develop innovative artistic approaches by using motifs in jewelry art.
