The analysis of the Uşak carpets in Ankara Vakıf Eserleri Museum

Ankara Vakif Eserleri Museum was founded by the Ankara Foundations General Directorate in 2007. Previously The General Directorate had had a small exhibition saloon in which valuable carpets and kilims had been gathered. Later he decided to collect other valuable Turkish article. For this purpose he needed a larger space and found a museum building. This museum building, which had been used by the Ankara and later restored by the Foundations General Directorate, opened to the public in 2007.The museum has three floors, a basement, a ground and first flor. Besides a seminar room, library, and conservation laboratory, there are a total of five exhibition saloons. The permanent articles are exhibited in four saloons and temporary articles are displayed in one saloon. In these saloons, carpets and kilims, wooden, metal, and tile articles, manuscripts, candle holders, oil lamps, clocks and cameras are exhibited.Among the articles displayed are carpets from the Uşak, Bergama, Kırşehir, Caucasian, Milas and Kula regions, kilims from Western Anatolia, Şarköy, and Niğde, four window shutters from Ankara?s Ahi Elvan Mosque, and two sermon pulpits which were brought from Kütahya. Apart from these, there are manuscripts, ceramic tile panel and a painting from the Atik Valide Sultan?s Mosque dating back to the 16th century.In a dissertation study called ?The Analysis of the Uşak Carpets in Ankara Vakif Eserleri Museum?, 88 Uşak carpets were examined in terms of their technical specifications such as quality, the size, types of knots, materials used, motifs, and composition.
