Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate how the concept of motherhood finds a place in artistic works and to put personal practices on a basis. In this context, the concept of motherhood is explained from psychology, sociology and artistic perspectives by utilizing different views. From the second half of the 20th century to the present day, the reflections of the artists' bond with the mother in their artworks are discussed. The impact of motherhood on the individual's way of being was traced in the works analyzed. The representations of motherhood in these works, which present subjective narratives from the lives of artists, and the commonalities and differences of these representations are included. In the application section, personal works were included as a reflection of the entire research process. In these works, the materials associated with the mother, such as embroidery, quilts, quilts, cloths and fabrics, were presented through collage, video and photography works. Literature review method was utilized in the research. Printed, electronic, periodical and non-periodical books, magazines, catalogs and theses were used. Artist websites, museum and gallery websites were examined and artworks were read. The importance of unpacking the meaning of motherhood was emphasized at the point of approaching our self-pattern.
