Özet (EN)

This study was planned to examine the effect of health education provided to mothers on their knowledge and anxiety levels regarding the newborn screening program. The research is an educational intervention study. The sample of the study consisted of mothers who gave birth at Manisa City Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic (intervention = 34, control = 34). In the study, mothers in the intervention group received face-to-face, one-on-one education using an educational booklet. The control group, on the other hand, received only the educational booklet. The data were collected using the Mother-Newborn Information Form, State Anxiety Scale, and Newborn Screening Program Knowledge Form. A significant difference was found between the post-test State Anxiety Scale mean scores of the intervention and control groups (p < 0,05). At the end of the study, the post-test knowledge scores of the intervention group were found to be significantly higher than those of the control group (p < 0,05). As a result of the study, it was determined that the knowledge levels of the mothers in the intervention group increased, while their anxiety levels decreased. In contrast, there was no change in the knowledge and anxiety levels of the mothers in the control group.
