Investigation of the relationship between child rearing attitudes of mothers and the motivation levels of their preschool children

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to examine the relationship between mothers' child-rearing attitudes and preschool children's motivation levels. The research was carried out with 352 children aged 36-72 months and their mothers who attended the kindergartens of official independent kindergartens and primary schools in Afyonkarahisar city center in the 2020 2021 academic year. In order to collect data in the research; "Child-Family General Information Form" to obtain necessary information about children and their mothers, "Parental Child-rearing Attitudes Scale (ABTS-A)" to determine mothers' child-rearing attitudes, and "Motivation Scale for Preschool Children" to determine children's motivation levels (DMQ18)" was used. The obtained data were analyzed by using t test, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and correlation analysis in SPSS package program. In addition, Tukey's test was used to determine between which groups the difference was in the items with a significant difference between the groups. The level of significance in the statistics was determined as 0.05. As a result of the research, it has been determined that there is a statistically significant difference between mothers' child-rearing attitudes according to the number of children, mother's education status, mother's employment status, father's education status, father's employment status and family structure (p<0.05). It was determined that the motivation levels of the children created a statistically significant difference according to the age, gender and working status of the mothers (p<0.05). In the study, it was also found that there was a significant positive correlation between mothers' Democratic Attitude sub-dimension scores of mothers and children's DMQ18 Gross Motor Persistence sub-dimension, High Level Satisfaction sub-dimension and General Competence sub-dimension scores; It was determined that there was a negative and significant relationship between the mothers' ATSI Repressive-Authoritarian Attitude sub-dimension scores and the children's DMQ18 General Competence sub dimension scores.
