Scale development study for evaluating mothers' sharenting behaviors

In this study, it was aimed to develop a scale to examine mothers' sharenting behaviors and investigate scale's differentiations according to demographic variables. In this way, it can support the present literature by investigating mothers' sharenting behaviors and their effects on individuals. In the process of the scale development, first the literature review was carried out and the item pool of 31 items was created accordingly. The expert opinion was required for the item pool and in the light of those necessary regulations, a pilot study was carried out with 125 participants with a form including 22 items. After the pilot application, a form with 17 items was created. Then the exploratory factor analysis performed on 342 participants and 17-item structure was able to explain 71.2% of the 4-factor variance. These 4 factors are named as "Sharing Behavior", "Social Comparison Behavior", "Positive Feedback Effect", and "Negative Feedback Effect". A confirmatory factor analysis on the final version of the scale was carried out with 338 participants and the model was validated. The Cronbach's Alfa value for the internal consistency was found as α=.73. For the exploratory and relational analyses, SPSS 21.0, SPSS program; for the confirmatory analysis, SPSS Amos 25.0 program were used. In the light of the findings, the Sharenting Scale has sufficient levels of reliability and validity. As the subscale of Sharenting Scale, mothers' negative feedback effect scores significantly differed according to education and number of children.
