Abstract (EN)

Antalya is one of the important tourism and agricultural cities and has a rapid growth. As the need for clean water resources increases with the population, it is necessary to protect existing waters and to apply much more smarter water policies. For this reason, the hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical investigation of the travertine with an area of 632 km2 and its surrounding sinkhole, well and water resources was aimed. 25 water samples were taken from the mentioned locations, for this reason; in addition to the physical and chemical properties of these waters, heavy metal contents were also investigated. It has been observed in this study that the waters in the region are generally in accordance with the standards, but they are also locally exposed to pollutants. Because of the permeability and conductivity of the lithological units in the region, especially the travertine, the consequences of pollution at points close to the sources can be severe. For this reason, it is necessary to work on the rational use of existing water resources as well as protection. Because "prevention is a more engineering approach than improvement".
