Abstract (EN)
Introduction: Emergency department crowding is a universal problem with negative effects on patient health. The number of emergency department visits in our country is much higher than it should be for effective and high quality emergency care. The aim of this study is to compare the number of emergency visits of four big hospitals in the city center of Antalya and gather data for better emergency health care. Material and Methods: We conducted as a multi-center, retrospective, observational study with all patients who presented to Akdeniz University Hospital, SBU Antalya Training and Research Hospital, Antalya Kepez State Hospital, Antalya Atatürk State Hospital between 01 January 2019 and 30 June 2019. Results: A total of 820562 patients were included in the study. The average age was 31.7±21.1 years. The gender distribution was 414561 (50.5%) male and 406001 (49.5%) female. While the most visits were made to SBU Antalya Training and Research Hospital (45.6%), the least patient visits were made to Akdeniz University Hospital (8.6%). Most visits were made in January (19.6%), and least visits were made in February (13.8%). The average number of patients per day was 4378±505 for weekdays and 4861±684 for weekends and holidays. Kepez State Hospital was the center that accepted the most ambulance entrances (27.5%). Conclusion: The average number of patients on holidays is higher than weekdays. Winter months have no effect on the number of patients. The number of emergency department visits to Akdeniz University Hospital is lower than the other centers, but the severity of patients, the rate of hospitalization and transfer to another hospital is higher compared to the other hospitals.
