The problems faced by students from the Turkish overseas and related communities educated in Antalya province

Major changes and developments in the world cause the movement of people from place to place. The significant territorial losses of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century and the following changes in borders prompted a "reverse migration" to Asia Minor. Immigration to Anatolia continued during the Republic era of Turkey as well. As a result of the end of the bipolar world along with the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Communist Bloc; Turkey has promoted to a leading role for the Turkic people in the Central Asia in terms of political, military, social and economic aspects. The political turmoil in the Middle East beginning in 2011 with a series of anti-government protests called "Arab Spring", caused a huge refugee influx from Arab countries to Turkey. Turkey has opened its doors to asylum seekers in the refugee migration, mostly consisting of Syrian Arabs. Although most European and Far Eastern countries, and especially the USA are seen as alternative destinations in this new world order for the Turks living abroad and the related communities; Turkey has been preferred more by them due to the ties relating to language, history, culture and religion. Antalya, one of the most important cities in Turkey, is flooded by a lot of foreign visitors. Some of these visitors who come to Antalya and find the opportunity to get to know the geography and culture decide to settle in order to benefit from the opportunities offered by the city. Likewise, it is also preferred by the Turks living abroad and the related communities in different parts of the world to settle in. Accordingly, there is a certain population of these people living in Antalya, and the children of these people in secondary school age receive education. In this regard, with this study it has been tried to identify the problems faced by these pupils in line with the opinions of school administrators, teachers, students and parents. This research has been created with the qualitative research method. For this purpose; fifteen social studies teachers, six school administrations, and twenty students and parents (who previously lived abroad as Turks and/or who belong to the related communities) have been interviewed. Semi-structured interview, one of the qualitative research techniques, has been used in the research, and the obtained data has been analyzed with content analysis technique. The study has shown that the students (who previously lived abroad as Turks and/or who belong to the related communities) experienced language problems and language-related academic failure while it has been determined that these students did not experience as many adaptation problems.
