A RESEARCH ON THE FLORA OF ANTALYA CITY Ramazan Süleyman GÖKTÜRK (M. S. Thesis) In this research, natural and cultural plants of Antalya have been investigated. Among the 2350 samples collected during the period of 1992-1994, 1023 species, 130 family and 569 genera have been identified. The number of taxa is 1064. In this number, the following species are not included. About 16 Eucalyptus species at the Duraliler Eucalyptatum on the western part of the University Campus, 164 species that belong to different families of ornamental plants at the Campus of Akdeniz University, 75 taxa that are cultivated and distributed by Parks and Garden Plants Division of Antalya city Municipality. Out of 1023 species 863 are natural and the rest are cultivated plants. Out of 1065 taxon 75 were recorded in C3 square for the first time. The number of endemic plants among all the collected species is 75 (7,7 %). Five of these endemic plants are specific for the study area, 15 of them are specific for Antalya provence. More than one third 377 (36,8 %) of identified species are mediterraneans, 27 (2,65 %) are Irano - Turanians and 26 (2,55 %) are Euro - Siberians elements and the remaning 593 species are cosmopolitan or species whose phytogeographical region is unnamed. Nine species belongs to Pteridophyta and 1014 species to Spermatophyta The number of Gymnospermae among 10 14 species is 1 1, and the rest are Angiospermae. About 842 of Angiospremae are Dicotylcdonopsida and 160 are Monocotyledonopsida. The largest families in order of number of species they include in the area are as follow: Fabaceae (118), Asteraccae (107), Poaceae (68), Lamiaceac (56), Brassicaccac (47), Caryophyllaceae (38), Liliaceae (36), Apiaceae (33), Scrophulariaccac (31), Boraginaceae (26). The largest genera with corresponding number of species are: Euphorbia (21), Silene (17), Ranunculus (16), Medicago (14), Trifolium ( 13), Allium (12), Hypericum and Vicla (9), Astragalus and Trigonella (8).
