Anthropometric and radiologic values at different communities living in Anatolian civilization from antique ages to date

Height, has been recognized as an important parameter in literature data in terms of providing information about the community and many researchers have developed different methods to estimate the height of the skeletal remains. Today, there are several methods which has been used and perpetuated the validity. In this project, in the first stage, it was aimed to form the height regression equation with the measurements obtained from the bone radiographs of the individuals in the adult modern population, then to apply this equation to the adult skeletons belonging to the ancient societies and to compare the differences in the skeletal heights by using different height estimation methods. In our study, 158 (84 male, 74 female) skeletons belonging to the ancient Anatolian societies obtained from the excavations in Van and Kütahya regions and the radiographic images of 167 (97 male, 70 female) healthy individuals in today's society were taken the maximum length measurements of six long bones (humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia and fibula) in the upper and lower extremities. Linear and multiple regression equations have been formed for estimation of height from maximum bone lengths of the individuals of our population. The standard error estimation in these equations was found in the range of 1,68-4,09 cm. Additionally, there was a high positive correlation between height and right maximum length of humeus measurements in the females and males in our population. The regression equations we obtained as a result of the study showed quite successful and reliable results in the estimation of height. These equations will provide us with very easiness and estimation accuracy, especially in the estimation of the heigth of the pre-historic societies obtained in the excavations carried out in our country.
