Feast music in Ancient Rome (Convivium)

This study aims to examine the historical development process and function of convivium music in Ancient Rome. In Ancient Rome, convivium referred to special events organized for feasts and social gatherings. Initially, convivium music was used for religious rituals and official ceremonies to gain prestige and the favor of the gods. However, over time, convivium music became widespread in social events as well. It started being used in feasts organized for entertainment purposes and private gatherings to entertain guests, enliven the atmosphere, and strengthen social bonds. In this way, convivium music gained significant importance in Ancient Roman society, contributing to the coming together of the community. This study, titled "Convivium Music in Ancient Rome," aims to explore the historical development and function of convivium music, thereby helping us understand the cultural and social structure of Ancient Roman society. Furthermore, it will emphasize the social cohesive power of music and the cultural development of the Roman Empire in the realms of religion and entertainment.
