Conversion of Anton Checkov's alienation at Nuri Bilge Ceylan's cinema

Different disciplines of art have been in a give-and-take process since they emerged. This interaction is one of the determining factors which has led arts to take their current shape today. Cinema, depending upon its own structure, has also made use of narratives and techniques of other arts. As ancient as human history, literature, both oral and written, is of the main sources which help the youngest art nourish, develop and change. Adapting literary works into films is a method which started in the very first days of cinema, has increasingly continued and is still popular today. Numerous works of world literature has been adapted into films either authenticly or in accordance with the requirements of cinema. The fact literary works provide almost-ready screenplays and promise success at the box office due to their popularity is one of the reasons why film makers appeal to adaptations. On the other hand, for some directors, adaptation mostly evolved into an individual process in time, and the notion that adapting a highly influenced novel or story into film without any loss of its power became prominent. The situation is the same in Turkey as well. Directors who adapt either native or foreign sources into films take an important place in our film history.
