Abstract (EN)
The aviation industry plays a crucial role in global connectivity, economic development, and transportation efficiency. It provides numerous advantages such as speed, comfort, reliability and network. As a result of this, there is an increasing demand for air transportation not only in terms of passenger but also in terms of logistics which creates a competitive environment in the industry. Airline companies are willing to enhance their fleet to meet this thriving demand. Therefore, fleet planning and aircraft selection are crucial issues to be managed by airline firms. The aircraft selection is a complex decision-making process containing multiple criteria and uncertainties. In other words, fleet planning experts should analyze aircraft types under vagueness based on different criteria to select the most appropriate one that best suits the company's needs. This paper's objective is to develop structured framework for aircraft selection considering three main categories which are financial, technical and environmental aspects and twelve sub-criteria under fuzziness and vagueness. Traditional decision-making methods frequently fail to address the ambiguities and imprecisions inherent in aircraft selection. In response to this challenge, this study presents a novel approach for aircraft selection based on the Interval Valued Spherical Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (IVSFAHP). The proposed method allows decision-makers to express their preferences in the form of linguistic terms, which are then transformed into interval valued spherical fuzzy numbers. These fuzzy numbers are utilized to derive the weights of criteria and the performance ratings of alternatives in a comprehensive and systematic manner. To validate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method, a case study is conducted to address the problem of selecting aircraft for a private company. Three decision makers evaluated 5 aircraft alternatives under different criteria. According to the result, A350-900 is selected as the most suitable alternative for the company's needs. This study makes a valuable contribution to the field of aviation management by providing a robust and flexible approach to aircraft selection and helps high-level executives to make appropriate decision among different alternatives by considering necessary conditions to align with organizational target and industry standards.
