Abstract (EN)
This research critically examines the intricate portrayal of women and their societal roles within the realm of environmental degradation, employing an ecofeminist lens, in three seminal Latin American novels: Ariana Harwicz's 'Die, My Love' (Matate Amor) and Samanta Schweblin's 'Fever Dream' (Distancia de rescate) and Agustina Bazterrica's 'Tender Is the Flesh' (Cadaver Exquisito). Positioned at the intersection of gender, society, and the environment, this thesis delves into how these narratives bring forth discussions on women's experiences and struggles in the backdrop of ecological concerns. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the study systematically conducts thematic, character, and symbolic analyses of the chosen novels, aiming to draw out recurring motifs and distinct narratives related to ecofeminism. A comparative study is undertaken to identify shared motifs, contrasting elements, and the broader narrative arc of ecofeminist themes in contemporary Latin American literature. The findings reveal that while each novel offers a unique exploration of female experiences within societal and environmental settings, there exists a collective voice that resonates with core ecofeminist principles. Issues like patriarchal oppression, women's connection to nature, and the effects of environmental degradation on female identity emerge prominently. In summary, this research underscores the significance of Latin American literature in furthering ecofeminist discourse and enriches our understanding of the complex interplay between women, society, and the environment. The study not only provides academic insights into these novels but also contributes to broader discussions on ecofeminism's relevance and application in literary works.
