Subject-verb agreement in Arabic and the analysis of verses without subject-verb agreement

In Arabic language, subject-verb agreement is a rule that applies to verb sentences. In classical Arabic syntax sources, it is explained as the harmony between verb and subject in terms of quality (masculinity-femininity) and quantity (number). However, it is seen that particularly certain grammar books address the topic superficially and do not provide sufficiently detailed information. Researchers who seem to be relying on superficial information claim that there are verses in the Quran without subject-verb agreement. This study provides detailed information on subject-verb agreement. In this framework, drawing from classical and modern sources, it analyses verses without subject-verb agreement. Claimed misspellings, grammar mistakes, and reading and dialect differences concerning such verses are discussed in detail. Finally, the study sheds light on the reasons for different uses of verses without subject-verb agreement. Key Words: Verb, subject, subject-verb agreement, masculine, feminine
