Determination of vegetation distribution characteristics of Arapgir (Malatya) district

Arapgir; It is located in the Upper Euphrates Section of the Eastern Anatolia Region, within the Eastern Anatolia Section of the Iran-Turanian Phytogeographic Region, close to (or within) the Anatolian Diagonal and within the B7 square rich in endemic plant existence. Arapgir is an area rich in natural ecological environment conditions due to its special location and physiographic structure, which is generally parallel to the Eastern Anatolia Region. Therefore, within the research area, plant species diversity and vegetation distribution characteristics differ in short distances. In the research area; There are mountain-plateau steppes, wooded steppe areas, natural steppe-looking areas, moist and dry forest areas. In this study, it is aimed to determine the relationship between ecological environmental conditions and vegetation distribution characteristics, which have a decisive effect on the natural vegetation distributed in Arapgir district, using GIS methods. The data set of the research area was produced by NDVI, NDMI, SMI, LST, Solar Radiation, Interpolation, Multiple Buffer, surface analyzes and digitization of secondary data. Vegetation distribution of the research area was determined by NDVI analysis and overlapped with ecological parameters in GIS environment and the relationship between vegetation distribution and ecological parameters was determined. 185 plant species were identified in the research area. These species; 134 are natural, 24 are exotic and 27 are cultivated plants. These natural species; 80 of them are composed of unknown elements, 23 of them are Irano-Turanian elements, 15 of them are Mediterranean elements and 16 of them are Euro-Siberian elements.
