The effect of frailty and malnutrition on the life fulfillment of elderly individuals admitting to the research hospital

This study was conducted to assess frailty and malnutrition among participants aged 65 and above applying to the Yozgat Bozok University Research and Application Hospital, and to measure the impact of frailty on malnutrition and life satisfaction. The study was conducted cross-sectionally in the year 2024. A total of 363 patients partici pated in the study. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using the 'Demog raphic Information Form,' 'Frailty Scale,' 'MNA-SF Scale,' and 'Life Satisfaction Scale.' Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis-H Test, Bonferroni post hoc test, Spearman correla tion analysis, and Regression Analyses were utilized for data evaluationOf the participants in the study, 51.2% were female, 74.4% were married, 64.2% were in the 65-74 age group, and 53.2% were elementary school graduates. The research revealed that 55.6% of indivi duals were found to be fragile, 36.6% pre-frail, and 0.8% non-frail (p<0.05). Additionally, the study found that 28.1% of individuals were malnourished, 58.1% were at risk of malnut rition, and 13.8% were not malnourished (p<0.05). Furthermore, it was observed that indi viduals' scores for frailty and malnutrition moved inversely with life satisfaction (p<0.05). The majority of participants were found to be fragile, with over a quarter being malnouris hed, and factors influencing this were evaluated. The negative impact of fragility and mal nutrition on life satisfaction was found to be significant (p<0.05). Keywords: Aging, Frailty, Malnutrition, Quality of Life
