Abstract (EN)
The Effects of Field and Loboratory Compaction Conditions on Volumetric and Mechanical Properties of Bituminous Hot Mixtures Hot mix asphalt layers, which are most widely used in Turkey and all over the World, are produced and paved according to the new developed techniques. The proper paving and compaction of hot mixtures have significant effect on the performance of pavement. To appreciate the field performance in the laboratory, scientists have long been searching the most appropriate methods to make a corelation between the field compaction and the laboratory compactions. In this research, the effects of different compaction methots in both field and laboratory on the volumetric and mechanical properties of hot mixtures were investigated. To make this, , binder coarse layer was constructed at 110 C, 130 C and 150 C by compacting 4 different compaction passes in about 600 m2 place in field. The volumetric and the mechanical properties of cores taken from the layers were compared with the ones which were constructed by different blow numbers in Marshall compactor and different gyration numbers in gyratory compactor. Consequently, different mechanical properties were evaluated for the cores which were taken from the field and the laboratory althoug having the same void ratios. Generally, when the field and the laboratory experiments have been compared, different simulations have been achieved according to different test methods however, it has been designated that the site cores have less been affected by the compaction energy than the laboratory cores in all tests.
