Abstract (EN)
This thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the traditional performance styles of certain folk dances specific to the Ardahan region. The study focuses particularly on the dances of Şeker Oğlan, Sarı Seyran, Kasap Barı, Dümme, Gaçike, and Sallama. The aim of the research is to examine the historical origins, figures, movements, music, and instruments used in these dances to identify their similarities and differences. Traditionally, these dances were performed during weddings, festivals, and other celebrations, fostering social bonds within the community. Each dance is characterized by unique rhythmic movements, dynamic structures, and distinct stylistic features. While davul (drum) and zurna (reed instrument) form the musical foundation of these performances, additional instruments such as accordion, shoulder drum, and tulum (bagpipe) add melodic richness. Over time, like other regional folk dances in Turkey, Ardahan's folk dances have been adapted for stage performances. New choreographies, varied stage arrangements, and additional musical instruments introduced by folk dance ensembles have enriched these dances with modern staging techniques. However, this process has also led to changes in traditional movements and forms, influenced by other dance disciplines. Documenting these changes to preserve the traditional structures and prevent cultural erosion is of critical importance. This study aims to analyze and present the traditional forms of these dances, serving as a significant resource for future research in this field.
