Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of using augmented reality technology on the students' academic achievement and motivation towards the lesson in the "Pure Matter and Mixtures" unit of the 7th grade Science course. The study was carried out with 76 students studying in the 7th grade in the 2019-2020 academic year. In the study, a mixed method that includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches was used. In the study, quantitative data were obtained by using a pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design, and qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with students. While the courses in the control group were taught as prescribed by the MEB curriculum, in the experimental group, augmented reality applications were also added in addition to the way the program envisaged. "Pure Substance and Mixtures Unit Academic Achievement Test" and "Motivation Scale for Science Course" were used as pre-test and post-test. In the acquisition of qualitative data, semi-structured interviews were conducted using the "Augmented Reality Student Interview Questions" created by the researcher. As a result of the research, it was determined that the use of augmented reality learning material in lessons increased students' academic achievement and motivation towards the lesson. In addition, the interviews with the students show that they find the use of augmented reality application in lessons fun, remarkable, intriguing and facilitating to understand.
