Comparative investigation of the bodies of the Artvin Yusufeli and Çankırı Handırı dams

Today, one of the biggest needs brought by the increasing population and urbanization around the world and in our country is the need for water. The structures built for the use of water in agriculture, industry and daily life show improvement over time. New construction projects are being carried out in order to use the existing water reserves and streams at high capacity in the most efficient way. Today, both water can be collected and energy can be produced with dams and hydroelectric power plants. Irrigation dams provide efficient and technically regular irrigation to agricultural lands. Hydroelectric power plants produce energy and provide support to residential areas with river power. Apart from these features, dams contribute to daily life and also support national income. Dams are built by the State Hydraulic Works with contractor companies in our country. Yusufeli Dam and HEPP project is the highest dam of our country and the 5th highest dam in the world, built under the control of the 26th Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works in Artvin. Handırı Dam is a dam built with Roller Compacted Concrete technology as an irrigation dam under the control of Çankırı province DSI 52nd Branch Directorate. In this master thesis, the dam body, body concrete, concrete components and properties of two dams were examined by including the dam design contractors in the field studies. As a result of the examination, it was concluded that the dams were built with the latest technology and high engineering design in their category. At the same time, the differences in the parameters of the dams designed for different purposes and differing from each other in terms of type and design were examined. In addition to the differences, it has been determined that there are similarities in some parameters. Today, Artvin Yusufeli Dam and Çankırı Handırı Dam successfully serve their purposes.
