Özet (EN)

Elevators that are used for transporting people and loads have very significant role for human life. However, lift accidents still have dangerous level on security of life and property at the moment. Especially steel wire ropes are very important in elevator systems in order to provide better safety and to prevent accidents. Steel wire ropes that are used for elevators incur various stress during operating. These stresses and strains cause destruction on ropes and decrease strength of wire ropes with time. In this thesis, effects of simulated failures to the rope endurance have been investigated by means of experimental tests to be done. Discard criteria for elevator ropes are identified with specific standards. Among failure criteria specified in this standards wire break, corrosion and abrasive wear are frequently encountered. It requires to be careful to these standards for implementing safe working conditions. In this project, effects of discard criteria to the rope endurance have been examined. Investigations about steel wire ropes in literature, aren't sufficient level so experimental studies about effects of simulated failures to the rope endurance have been performed. Test samples that have different compositions have been prepared for this. Tensile endurance tests have been performed by creating different failure types on rope samples. Results obtained have been compared. Effects of simulated failures to the rope endurance have been investigated. It is aimed that results obtained from this project will be important reference for researchers and rope industry.
