Vocabulary in the Garib-nâme masnavi of Âşık Pasha

Language is the basic element with different characteristics. One of the important definitions of this basic element is the vocabulary of a language. While it is possible to determine today's vocabulary in the living witness of the language, written works are used to determine the vocabulary of historical periods. The elements of vocabulary used by the poet in his work not only reflect his artistic identity and knowledge, but also mirror many aspects of the period in which the work was written, such as language, mentality, sociology, psychology and folklore. This study, which aims to reveal the vocabulary of Âşık Pasha's 14th century masnavi Garib-nâme, consists of an introduction, analysis sections and a conclusion. In the Introduction, the life and works of Âşık Pasha are mentioned and general information and studies about Garib-nâme are given. In the analysis chapters, the words in the vocabulary of the masnavi are analyzed under various headings in terms of frequency, origin, type and meaning; idioms and doublings are also explained with examples. Conclusions about the vocabulary of the work are listed in the Conclusion section. The vocabulary of Âşık Paşa, which is the expression of his period, mentality and artist personality, has been identified. It has been determined that the poet uses a high number of words of different and Turkish origin in his work, and that he also makes use of idioms and doublings.
