Abstract (EN)
In this study; it is aimed to determine the effect of different cutting parameters on surface roughness properties of fiberboard (MDF) and some wood materials which were cut by using computer controlled Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ) method. For this purpose, MDF samples were prepared in three different thicknesses (18, 36 and 54 mm), with samples obtained as tangential and radial cross section from scots pine (Pinus Sylvestris L.), Eastern beech (Fagus Orientalis L.) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea L.) woods. The samples were then cut in the ASJ machine by applying three different feed rates (50, 100 and 200 mm/min), three different abrasive mass flow rates (200, 300 and 450 gr/min) and two different cutting fluid (water) pressures (3000 and 3800 bar). Surface roughness properties (Rz, Rq and Ra) were investigated according to TS 6212 EN ISO 4288 to determine the effect of cutting parameters on surface quality. According to the results of the research, surface roughness values of MDF and wood materials increased in parallel with the increase of material thickness and AWJ feed speed. On the other hand, depending on the increase in abrasive ratio, the surface roughness values of the samples decreased and the surface smoothness increased. In addition, the increase in water pressure is not very obvious, but improves the surface quality of the samples. In general, it was observed that the material thickness and AWJ feed speed have a significant effect while the the abrasive ratio and water pressure have less effect on the surface roughness properties of MDF and wood materials.
