The space perception of immigrants coming from Europe and Asia: Antalya sample

In this study, central districts of Antalya city, which is one of the most important tourist cities and one of the most foreign migration-receiving cities in Turkey, are selected as study areas. This study aims to determine what are the similarities and the differences among immigrants in terms of places used and perception by searching which places do they use upon purposes and their perceptions about these places and which functions and spatial factors have active role in getting to know the city and the forming of foreign national immigrants' perceptions about the city that reside in the city centre of Antalya. The survey analysis was used as a research method. Questionnaires formed as a result of the literature review were carried out to the immigrants who were in the scope of the research and came from Europe and Asia. Applied questionnaire results, after the process of enough analysis, were interpreted by posting the database program ArcGIS 10.4.1 and produced maps about the topic. One of the most remarkable findings obtained after analysing of data is that Kepez district was hardly mentioned by immigrants coming from Europe except for a few answers. Another remarkable finding is that the districts which are in east-west direction were hardly ever mentioned and mostly central districts and the districts bordering on them are perceived as the start and end of the city although more than the half of the immigrants in this study group state that they have been living in Antalya for more than four years. It is believed that the data obtained after the results of this study will help the other people and institutions that study about this topic.
